Intercity travel to and from Beijing is projected to reach 22.1 million trips this year, with an average daily passenger volume of 4.42 million—a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024 and potentially a record high. Self-driving tours will dominate the travel landscape. During the May Day holiday, highway travel demand remains robust. Short-distance self-driving trips around Beijing's suburbs intertwine with medium-to-long-distance cross-provincial self-driving tours. Road travel remains the primary mode for passenger flows to and from Beijing, accounting for 61% of total passenger volume. With an average daily traffic volume of 1.13 million vehicles, it has become the preferred choice for residents traveling outside the capital.
