The European tourism market demonstrated positive growth in the first quarter of 2025, driven particularly by the Chinese Spring Festival holiday and increased travel to Eastern Europe. However, the European Travel Commission (ETC) report “European Tourism: Trends and Outlook” report for Q1 2025 indicates that Southern Europe and Mediterranean destinations continued to attract substantial global visitor numbers this quarter, surpassing 2019 levels. The region has particularly benefited from robust growth in long-haul markets such as China and India. Nevertheless, Serbia currently stands as the only European destination where Chinese visitor numbers have exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
